What is a drawing?

The Shorter Oxford Dictionary defines drawing as:

'formation of a line by drawing some tracing instrument from point to point of a surface; representation by lines; delineation as distinguished from painting... the arrangement of lines which determine form.'

Here are some other suggestions to help you think,

Drawings can describe objects, places and people with the simplest of lines.

Complex drawings combine line, texture and tone to render three-dimensional forms in sophisticated ways.

Combinations of media may be used to represent a personal experience like dancing or joy.

Drawings are made through a physical process; translating one’s observations and thoughts through the hands onto paper or another surface.
